Retinol and retinal
Retinol is the most widely used form of vitamin A in skincare and the active with the longest track record for texture, pores, fine lines and tone. It works by speeding up skin renewal, which is why the first weeks can bring dryness or flaking: introduce it gradually, at night, and always with sunscreen in the morning. Retinal (retinaldehyde) is one step closer to the active form and tends to be tolerated as well or better at the same strength. At the centre we pair it with renewal protocols and prescribe it by skin type; at home, pick the lowest concentration you can use consistently.
